A wooden house extension is one of the easiest ways to gain extra space for relaxing, parking or a covered terrace without major building work. In this article we explain what extensions we build, how the work goes and what affects the price.
What is a house extension and what is it for?
An extension is a wooden structure built against the wall of an existing house. The most common uses:
- Covered terrace – an outdoor spot sheltered from rain and sun.
- Entrance canopy – a dry place for shoes, prams and bikes.
- Carport by the house – your car is always close to the door.
- Glazed extension or veranda – a room you can use most of the year.
- Shelter for firewood and garden tools – practical storage space.
The extensions we build
We design each extension for the specific house so the roof pitch, colour and materials match the building. Standard height to the lowest point is about 2.1–2.2 m.
- Wooden extension with a metal roof – a strong, long-lasting solution.
- Extension with a polycarbonate roof – lets daylight in, so the house windows aren't shaded.
- Extension with a shingle roof – matches houses with shingle roofs.
- Glazed extension – with windows and gutters.
- Extension with railings or closed walls – to your wishes.
You can see our completed work with photos in our extension catalogue.
What affects the price of an extension?
A standard wooden extension starts from 2900 EUR + VAT (3 x 4 m) and 3300 EUR + VAT (3 x 5 m), delivery usually 50–150 EUR. For non-standard extensions we calculate the price individually. The price mainly depends on:
- Size – the extension's length along the house and its depth.
- Roofing – polycarbonate, metal or shingles.
- Walls – an open extension, railings, closed walls or glazing.
- Floor and foundation – boarded floor, terrace, steps.
- Extra features – gutters, railings, paint.
- Location – delivery distance.
To prepare an exact quote, all we need is a photo of the house, approximate sizes and your wishes.
How we work: from 3D design to installation
For standard designs, we already have a ready 3D design we can send and show you – you'll see how the finished structure will look before you order.
For non-standard designs, our specialist visits and takes measurements. Then we prepare a 3D design or sketch. Once you approve it, we make all the parts in our workshop, bring them over and install the structure on site.
Does an extension need approval?
Requirements vary with the extension's size and the municipality. Before building, we recommend contacting your local building authority to check whether your extension needs approval.
