Decking boards are the most important part of a terrace – they determine both its look and how long it lasts. This article covers how to choose decking boards and what affects their price.
Types of decking boards
- Grooved decking boards – less slippery, the most popular choice.
- Smooth decking boards – a simple, clean look.
- Softwood boards (pine, spruce) – good value and easy to work.
What affects the price of decking boards?
- Wood species.
- Sizes – thickness, width and length.
- Quality grade – number of knots, quality of planing.
- Treatment – untreated, impregnated or painted boards.
- Quantity – larger orders can get a better price per metre.
Timber prices change, so we calculate the current price for your terrace on request.
How to choose decking boards
- Choose boards thick enough that the floor doesn't flex.
- Leave gaps between boards for drainage and for the wood to expand.
- Use quality fixings.
- Treat the boards with decking oil and renew the treatment every couple of years.
We also sell profiled boards, decking and sauna cladding separately – see Cladding boards. We can also make custom profiles to order.
